About the song:
I did this again entirely from scratch. I started by importing my typical set of instruments and samples, the '94 Distortion Guitar, the Sonic 1 Kick and the Sonic Crackers Snare, and now also my Casino Forest bass, and started giving them notes and editing them slightly to see what I could change. I had an idea of what the main instrument should sound like after singing it to myself a lot of times, it should be high-pitched and... breathy, thick, don't know how to describe it. Basically, what the synth is, but imitated by voice, just its qualities. Like usual, the module sounded like shit for a while, but with the right instruments it got good eventually. It was actually really easy in the end, I didn't need to add new instruments to pull some effect like in the old remix, the instruments were good enough to not need that, and without the echo effect and FM piano I had more room for harmonies. The only problem with the song was that the volume was so loud that I needed a sampled crash cymbal to make it audible, that's really the only reason I ever do that.

With time I've started to forget what the "right instruments" are, and now I can say, they're supposed to be those that keep the "same energy" as the original, kinda like Genesis equivalents or just something similar by proxy, like for example, here I used my Casino Forest bass originally because it was very bassy and hard, similar to the one in the original, but then I looked for a slappier bass, tried some Toejam & Earl basses that weren't as bassy as I needed, and then used the Sonic 1 bass, like I did for my original remix because it also sounds quite similar, and edited it to adjust the slappiness and bassiness of it until it resembled the original more and more and I had no need to use more than one bass, while also still being a good Genesis instrument, or in other words, just sounding good by itself and in the context of the song. So, the idea is to find an instrument that shares some of the general aspects of what you're looking for, something that already resembles the thing you're trying to imitate, and edit it to see if it can be improved. This is something that becomes second nature when you do it often, but can get hard to grasp when you don't remember the last time you made a cover and you try to improvise it, so I'm writing this more to remind myself of this.
