About the song:
It's been said before that the SNES is best with orchestrals and the Genesis is best with more poppy songs, and having that in mind, I tried to make the orchestral parts sound more synthy and videogame-y so it'd be good on its own terms. I still used the closest I could get to orchestra strings, which meant using Sonic trumpets and strings, but only sparingly to not sound generic, and also square waves. Just like previous songs I've done, some piano lines were done with square waves too. In the original, the last part of the song goes heavy on high-pitched strings, like an epic climax, but I couldn't do the same because what I had didn't sound loud or full enough, so instead I tried a more calming feel with a soft high-pitched instrument, which I think loops back nicely.

About the picture:
New sprites again! This time I drew the rail Sonic's on. Most sprites are from Sonic Crackers (the prototype), including the ground stuff and most of the background. Part of the tower thing is from Death Egg Zone Act 1, the clouds are from Stardust Speedway Bad Future, and the mountains are from Rastan Saga 2, a random game I found which had the most similar mountains to actual Mortar Canyon I could find. Those background sprites with little lights are from Whacky Workbench Bad Future. The grinding fire sprites and the diagonal lights are from Stardust Speedway too. All background sprites were recolored to fit the Sonic Crackers ones. Doing it all took me 3 days total.
