However, when done correctly and with the right intent, the single-leg deadlift can be an awesome exercise for improving strength, athleticism, and much more.

If you're like me, you could probably use more single-leg work in your program, especially with the deadlift.
This is an exercise that I'm implementing more in my training and it's been awesome to challenge my body from a strength and stability context.
Like with bilateral exercises, the single-leg deadlift is a skill and you should approach training it just like you would a normal deadlift.
Don't be afraid to use proper variations depending on your context and you can load these heavy!
