1. Home Page
Home page - this is where the fun starts and this is where you can go if you feel lost or lonely. The icons at the top of the page are super important, and you might need to add some missing ones before you start, you can do this by clicking the arrow at the side - customize quick access toolbar.

Next to them you have the home page icon, quick messages, which are really fun to use and patient search.
2. Appointment Book
Appointment Book - this is the second most important page on EMIS, because this will have a list of patients that are booked in for appointments at specified times. To know who is seeing you or other clinicians, choose the date you are interested in - or click Today which is a big time saver.
Make sure you click on the right session holder or holders. Some practice will have these already made for you, but if you are not there you will need to add yourself by looking for your name - or you practice might just prefer to call you locum.

a - arrive
s - send in
l - leave
c - cancel
3. Add Consultation
Go to the icon that says consultations and click on that. Now this is a list of all the consultations that that patient has had. When you have familiarised yourself with the patient history, click on add and that will automatically load up a patient consultation.
Before you start, personally, I would make sure that you are choosing the right consultation type - click on the arrow you'll be able to choose the type.
Go into history and this is where you're basically typing in the history. If relevant, you might want to add in an examination. Normally I will put my plan in the comments section. Before you finish your consultation, make sure that you add a problem. On the right hand side there will be a list of problems that you can potentially add. If you don't know what the diagnosis is, add something generic like abdominal pain.- this will help with continuity of care in the future.
Click on save and that will save to the patient record.
4. Medication
If you want to prescribe some medication, all you need to do is go to the medication tab on the left-hand side and click on that. Start putting in the name of the medication and click on it. If you're happy with that - click issue.
Also, go to the medication tab and you can see a list of all the medication that this patient has had prescribed recently and these are all the drugs on the patient's repeat prescription
5. Bloods, Referrals, Investigations
Finally, let's say we want this patient to have some investigations (x-rays, USS) - all practises are different in terms of how you would request these tests. I would just delegate that task to the secretaries for now.
Go up to the icon which is add new user task. Go down to task type and just go to referral and, as you can see, this is going to be sending this task to the secretary group, write up what you want or the referral then click send. For bloods, I will typically put it in the plan (comment) section and just ask the patient to organise those with the reception.
Now something that is also really useful - you can go up to the investigations tab and, most frequently, you will see blood tests in here.
