One of the biggest sources of controversy in modern gaming, DLC is the definition of a love-hate relationship. Some DLCs are excellent and we love 'em, whereas a great deal more are awful and we friggin' hate 'em! Here's our verdict on the top five worst DLCs ever.

5. Hearthfire --- $4.99 - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Promoted as something that would beef up the game with awesome customisation options, Skyrim's Hearthfire DLC was the equivalent of paying for bullets in Call of Duty. In other words, there's absolutely no reason why this shoddy add-on shouldn't have been free. If you thought Oblivion's legendary 'Horse Armour' was bad, this one is tragic. Oh Bethesda, when will you learn?

4. Oscorp Search & Destroy Pack --- $2.99 - The Amazing Spider-Man

With a name like Search & Destroy Pack, you would think you'd be in for something explosive and exciting. Well if you consider tacky clones of Space Invaders and Snake exciting then you'll love this one! For everyone else though, surely you'd much rather play the actual game than pay real money for two crappy apps on the in-game smart phone? What on earth were they thinking?!

3. x25 Lives DLC --- Amazon preorder bonus - Sonic Lost World

Although this is the only DLC on the list that you don't have to dig deep for doesn't mean it's any less awful. While most preorder incentives offer exclusive character skins or weapons, Sonic Lost World offers extra lives. You know, those things you get by playing the game anyway? Those things you're supposed to earn and that disappear forever until you earn more yourself? Mind. Blown.

2. The Ending (Yes, the ACTUAL ending!) --- $6.99 - Asura's Wrath

It goes without saying that Capcom are the kings of rip-off DLC. But what they did with Asura's Wrath was shameful, forcing players to cough up extra cash to see the game's real ending. And the biggest insult? If you didn't like it, you were stuck without a paddle. Remember our joke about paying for bullets in Call of Duty? With this happening, give it a couple of years and you'll see.

1. Colour Packs --- $2.99 each - Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition

Big surprise: it's Capcom again, coming in at number 1 with a stinker. While games such as Asura's Wrath crow-barred money for the real ending and Street Fighter X Tekken was packed with on-disc DLC, Street Fighter III's crime is colours. Not brand new characters or awesome costumes, but palette swaps that should be part of the game in the first place. Capcom would put a price tag on rainbows if they were able to!
