Kapol is a sanskrit word which means cheek.  Shakti means strength. This exercise as the name suggests is meant for strengthening the cheeks.  But if we see the process of doing exercise, we will find other benefits which are more significant.

Keeping the eyes opened and pouting your lips (in the shape of crow’s beak).
Suck in the air vigorously through the mouth with a sibilant sound and blow out your cheeks. This is called kaki Mudra.
Keeping your eyes closed and cheeks inflated, close the nostrils with the thumbs with other fingers of both hands joined. Hold the breath as long as you can.
Bring your chin forward against the cavity of your throat (sternal notch).
After a certain while (as per your capacity), let the neck return to the normal posture.
Open your eyes, and exhale through the nose slowly and effortlessly. Simultaneously, bring your arms in normal position after describing a circle. You can place your hands in normal position – Gyan mudra in seating posture or along thighs in standing posture.

Frequency: In the beginning, one should perform this exercise five times.

Precautions of Kapola Sakti Vikasaka
As usual, we discuss about the precautions of every exercise. This exercise seems to be easy and can be done by any one. But still, one should be careful in the following conditions:

Vertigo (one should not do kapola sakti vardhak in vertigo)
High Blood Pressure (one should limit this practice to 3-4 times only and retention of breath should be within the capacity).
Cervical Spondylitis (In this case, neck should not bent forward, as this will aggravate the cervical spondylitis and the pain or headache or even vertigo issues can arise. So, just make kaki mudra and inflate your cheeks with fresh air. That’s enough).
Very loose teeth. (Be very careful they should not be carried inside with the breath). If artificial teeth are loose, they should be removed before the exercise.
The surrounding air should be neat, clean and fresh. Never practice this exercise in polluted air.
Benefits of Kapola Sakti Vardhak

The Kakimudra depends on aeration and oxygenation of the oral cavity.
