Have you ever struggled with intrusive thoughts?  Thoughts that bully you, push you around or tell you what to do?  In this video I discuss how to unhook from intrusive thoughts via the process of cognitive defusion. Cognitive defusion is a term used in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and is the process of learning to step back from your thoughts. Instead of getting pushed around or bullied by your thoughts you learn to let them go. In other words, cognitive defusion means:

☐Looking at thoughts rather than from thoughts
☐Noticing thoughts rather than being caught up in thoughts
☐Letting thoughts come and go rather than holding onto them

Cognitive defusion is also inherent in mindfulness meditation.  By practicing mindfulness you can develop the ability to pause, take a breath, observe what is going on and gain perspective.  Several research studies have shown that mindfulness reduces negative self talk.
