Goa's Original Ros Omelette @ Hotel Roshani, Margao

Shopping is hungry work, and shoppers at New Market have been eating at Hotel Roshani for over 90 years, of which 37 are in its current location opposite the New Market chapel.

Hotel Roshani is the pioneer and original home of Goa’s beloved ros omelette, third generation owner Anuj tells me. We have sampled both the breakfast favourites like ros omelette (Rs 130) and mutton kheema (Rs 230) here, as well as Roshani’s popular fish thali lunch.

The hot breakfast was superb.

Back a few hours later for lunch, as we are hot and bothered after shopping, Maria and I will sit upstairs in Hotel Roshani’s AC section this time. That lovely morning kheema has kept us in the mood for mutton. We are very hungry after shopping for kurtas and churidars. Today we’re having mutton dry fry (Rs 250) and mutton xacuti (Rs 230) to start.

Besides the delicious xacuti, the most popular items here at lunch time are, of course, the different Goan fish thalis

Thie Roshan special fish thali (Rs 290) comes with prawn curry, chilli chicken, chonnem bhaji, French beans bhaji, kismur, salad, kokum curry, pickle, rice and a nice piece of modso.

When next in New Market and craving a homely meal, Roshani is one of the old time Margao favourites
