The Rise of 2PM: The Underappreciated Heartthrobs of 2nd Gen

In 2008, JYP Entertainment needed
In 2008, JYP Entertainment needed a new male group to compete with the other labels. He would launch a new male group called 2PM. The group blended a mix of Koreans and foreign talent from the US. Their dance and pop songs would soon take over Korea, winning Artist of the Year at the 2009 MAMAs.
The group would be mega popular in Japan, one of the few K-pop groups to be truly accepted by the Japanese fandom and was high successful.
From the late 2000s to 2017, the group was at their peak, resonating with 2nd and 3rd gen fans. Yet, when fans look back at these two eras, 2PM is rarely mentioned compared to their contemporaries, such as Big Bang, SHINee, and EXO, a shame for an accomplished group.
This underappreciation is even more emphasized when many international fans didn’t know who Nichkhun was during his guest appearance on the show America 2 Korea.
So why was 2PM largely forgotten by many?
