The correct code for a skin biopsy is selected by the type of biopsy--tangential, punch or incisional. Biopsies may be described as needle biopsies or fine needle aspiration biopsy, core needle biopsy, brush biopsy, or excisional biopsy.

Different scenarios are presented with coding guidelines and examples for each.
