In this video lesson we will "Get to the Point" by reviewing the Coordinate Plane.  We will begin by reviewing key vocabulary words.  You will understand that a coordinate plane is a two-dimensional plane formed by the intersection of a horizontal and vertical line called the x and y axes.  We will identify the point of intersection as the origin, (0, 0).  We will learn that the four quadrants are named using Roman Numerals in a counter clockwise direction.  We will name ordered pairs, (x, y).  We will name graphed ordered pairs and graph given ordered pairs.  We will understand that the x coordinate tells us the horizontal direction; right if positive and left if negative.  We will understand that the y coordinate tells us the vertical direction; up if positive and down if negative.  Student practice is embedded in the lesson with modeled exemplar solutions.

Graph points on the coordinate plane to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
5.G.A.1  Use a pair of perpendicular number lines, called axes, to define a coordinate system, with the intersection of the lines (the origin) arranged to coincide with the zero on each line and a given point in the plane located by using an ordered pair of numbers, called its coordinates. Understand that the first number indicates how far to travel from the origin in the direction of one axis, and the second number indicates how far to travel in the direction of the second axis, with the convention that the names of the two axes and the coordinates correspond (e.g., x-axis and x-coordinate, y-axis and y-coordinate).
