The Hunter and Couple of Birds

কোন এক জঙ্গলের পাশে এক ব‍্যাধ বাস করত । তার খারাপ স্বভাবের জন্য তার আত্মীয় পরিজন সবাই তাকে ছেড়ে চলে যায় । প্রতিদিনই সে সকালে বেরিয়ে যেতো তীর-ধনুক নিয়ে, আর শিকার করে সন্ধ্যেবেলা বাড়ি ফিরত। একদিন শিকারে বেরিয়ে সে একটি কপোতী ছাড়া আর কিছুই শিকার করতে পারলো না । এদিকে কপত গাছে বসে কপোতীর জন্য অপেক্ষা করতে থাকে ।বাড়ি ফিরতে ফিরতে ব‍্যাধের সন্ধ্যা হয়ে যায় শীতের সকাল, এমন সময় আকাশ কালো করে মেঘ করে আসে আর বিদ্যুতের ঝলকানি শুরু হয় । এরকম অবস্থায় একটি বটগাছের নিচে ব‍্যাধ আশ্রয় নিল , যে গাছে কপোতটি অপেক্ষা করছিল । কপোতের ডাকাডাকি কপতি শুনতে পায়, তখন কপত বলে তুমি আমাদের এই অতিথিকে আপ্যায়ন করো । তাকে আপ্যায়ন করার জন্য কিছু খুঁজে না পেয়ে নিজের শরীরটাকে আগুনের মধ্যে ফেলে দেয় । এই ঘটনায় ব‍্যাধের মন পরিবর্তন হয় তারপর সে খাঁচা থেকে কপতিটিকেও  খাঁচা থেকে মুক্ত করে দেয় । এবং কপোতীও ওই আগুনে ঝাঁপ দিয়ে ব‍্যাধের  খাদ্যে পরিণত হয়।
