Swiss voters were split down
Swiss voters were split down the middle on whether to curb immigration by European Union citizens, in a referendum seen as a crunch test of the country's ties with the 28-member bloc. Swiss television SRF reports that the referendum was approved by an extremely narrow margin Sunday. Initial results show some 50.5 percent of voters, with about 49.5 percent against. Approval was strongest in German and Italian-speaking parts of the country, and in rural areas. Al Jazeera's Catherine Stancl reports.
