To his mother and the villagers’ despair, this restless state was the reason he ran away from home, time and again. On one such occasion, he caught a boat ride with a village zamindar. His natural virtuousness and spontaneity appealed to the zamindar and his wife, but not to their daughter, Charusashi. Subsequently, Tarapada settled with the Zamindar family in their village and won the hearts of the villagers around. In these two years, Charushashi’s unpredictable tantrums casted a bitter-sweet spell on Tarapada’s wanderlust mind. And love started to blossom. Soon enough, they were engaged to be married. But on their wedding eve, Tarapada heard an opera band that was sailing across the quiet village. What happened next is nothing short of a shock, or is it?
