Harvesting and Making Purple Dead Nettles Tincture

Hello and welcome to Old Ways Gardening and Prepping.🍀 Would like to welcome you each out to my backyard on this chilly overcast day. On this day I am on a mission trying to harvest a bunch of Purple Dead Nettles (Lamium purpureum) before these frost's come my way.

Purple dead nettles are such a beautiful plant that not many know about it's culinary as well as medicinal uses. Another wonderful bit of information is around here it usually is the first blooming plants that feed the bee's and other pollinators. Bee's and especially bumble bees love them so remember to harvest responsibly.

Purple dead nettles have astringent, purgative, diuretic, and diaphoretic properties. It is also anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial. Fresh leaves can be macerated and placed on  wounds as a poultice. The leaves can be used on external wounds or cuts, or as a poultice. Purple dead nettle is high in vitamins A, C, and K and is high in iron as well as fiber.
