The Amex Platinum Card’s $200 Airline Fee Credit is designed to reimburse air-related purchases in the form of a statement credit.

However, it does not work for the cost of an air ticket itself.  Rather, it works only for incidental purchases on select airlines that you can change once each year.

In case you have the Amex BUSINESS Platinum Card with a $200 Airline Fee Credit, it works in the same way.

And if you have the HILTON HONORS ASPIRE CARD with a $250 Airline Fee Credit, that one works in exactly the same way, too.

Here are the details you need to know…

ELIGIBLE AIRLINES
- Alaska Airlines
- American Airlines
- Delta Air Lines
- Frontier Airlines
- Hawaiian Airlines
- JetBlue Airways
- Spirit Airlines
- Southwest Airlines
- United Airlines

HOW TO SELECT AIRLINE FOR AMEX PLATINUM & HILTON HONORS ASPIRE CARD
1.  Log into your Amex account from a desktop or laptop
2.  Select your Amex Platinum or Hilton Honors Aspire Card
3.  Tap on the Benefits tab on the top horizontal menu
4.  Scroll down to Airline Fee Credit
5.  Enroll for the first time & choose your airline
NOTE:  You’ll go to the same place to change your airline each year.

WHAT WORKS FOR AMEX AIRLINE CREDIT? // WHAT CAN AMEX AIRLINE CREDIT BE USED FOR? // HOW TO GET AMEX AIRLINE CREDIT (Eligible charges)
- Checked baggage fees
- Overweight / oversize baggage fees
- Change fees
- Phone reservation fees
- Pet flight fees
- Airport lounge day passes and annual memberships (Only airline-owned & operated lounges, e.g. American Airlines Admirals Club, Delta SkyClub, United Club, Alaska Lounge)
- Seat assignment fees
- Inflight amenity fees (beverages, food, pillows / blankets, etc.)
- Inflight entertainment fees (excluding wireless internet)
NOTE:  Must charge these separately from air ticket.  If you bundle them with the cost of airfare, it won’t work as the charge will show up as an airfare purchase (which is not eligible).

IMPORTANT NOTES

1.  1st-time activation required (see above to learn how)

2.  When selecting your airline for the 1st time, you can do so at any time in any month.

3.  When changing your airline in your 2nd year and beyond, you can do so 1x per calendar year in January (i.e. Jan 01 – Jan 30).

4.  If you don’t make a change, your previous selection remains.

5.  You can receive the credit in 1 charge or in multiple charges until the maximum is reached.

6.  Credit issued automatically.  If you don’t receive a credit within 4 weeks, call the number on the back of your card or chat with Amex online to have them process it manually.

7.  Limit one credit per account.  If you have authorized users, they can use the credit, but they do not receive their own.
