I've been wanting to vid Dean for a long time now. His character is complex, wonderful and difficult to understand. Some episodes which brought out the deep psychology of Dean's character were 'Dream a little dream of me' and 'My bloody valentine'. I've used moments that best capture how Dean truly feels beneath that tough bravado.
He'd always tried to stay good and smile through everything, but all the crap he's been through just kept breaking him slowly until he was left dead and bleak inside. He fails to see the good in himself and is engulfed by constant self-loathing, tiredness, remorse and loneliness. He's a strong and faithful lover, yet has been let down by so many people, even his loved ones like Sam, Cas and John. I've stressed on the fact that Dean himself is a nightmare for himself. Maybe this vehement self-hate is a reason that contributed to making him more prone to the Mark. He wanted to escape from himself. He didn't want to be cured because the Mark had removed all his weaknesses and made him invincible. He felt he was better off far away from Sam, Cas and all the others he loved. He was better off far from himself. He could finally let go of the attachments that slowed him down, and all the pain and grief that only humans are capable of feeling.
