In this video two methods
In this video two methods of sodium chlorate preparation are demonstrated.
Bleach method:
Get 100 mL of pure chlorine bleach (without additives) and boil it down until you start to see crystals. At this point, take it off heating and decant the liquid in another beaker. You now have a solution of sodium chlorate. Boil it all the way down to remove the water and collect the product.
Electrolysis method:
Dissolve 50 grams of common table salt (sodium chloride) in 200 mL of water. Heat the solution up nearly to its boiling point and turn on the power to start the electrolysis. Run it for a few hours and you 're done. Boil the solution down to obtain solid sodium chlorate (you may keep it in solution if you wish ;) ).
I 'll be needing sodium chlorate in a future video where i make sodium permanganate.
