Stylish enviroment, excellent coffee, something sweet or salty to snack on. Cafés are a part of Prague. In this episode of Live Prague, we will take you to three café legends which helped shape the cultural life of our capital city.

Which Prague cafés should everyone visit at least once in their lifetime?

Confectionery Myšák (Vodičkova, Nové Město)
The first of Prague's legendary establishments bears the name of its founder, the First Republic confectioner František Myšák. Its guests included Oldřich Nový, Ema Destinnová and T. G. Masaryk himself. To this day, the pastry shop retains its First Republic character, although you will also find modern elements. Of course, what this place is famous for is the desserts - the famous Mouse Cup has been a hit for 80 years, the traditional desserts are really honest and guests come from near and far for the buns with shodo.

Café Slavia (Smetanovo nábřeží, Old Town)
This café in the Lažanský Palace is one of the symbols of Prague. It was built by František Havel and its "regulars" included Antonín Dvořák, Karel Hašler and Václav Havel. The art deco interior with marble, wood and mirrors creates a unique atmosphere. Add to this a pianist who plays for guests every evening and it is clear why Slavia is so popular. Even the delicacies on offer here are definitely worth trying. If you want to try something unusual, try the famous café de absinthe.

Café Louvre (Národní, Nové Město)
This stylish café, which first opened its doors at the beginning of the last century, has been frequented by a whole host of famous guests. The physicist Albert Einstein, for example, was as attracted to the café's interior, helpful staff and renowned cuisine as it does today. Perhaps it was here, over a cup of good liquor, that he came up with his theory of relativity. By the way, the local billiard room is also popular, with a wonderful atmosphere where you can play with friends or family for a reasonable penny.
