In this jazz improvisation lesson I'll show you how to double your improvisation vocabulary through the use of octave displacements. Beginning with a lick used by the great tenor saxophone player, Dexter Gordon, I'll take you through several common jazz lines with variations that outline a method for exploring displacements on passages in the practice room. This method works on swing phrases bebop and hard bop lines, Latin phrases, and more.
