'Nobody Loves Me' was recorded by Memphis Slim And The House Rockers in 1949 and released on the Miracle label; a short-lived Chicago record label that had been established three years earlier in 1946. The composer credit on the Miracle record label is 'Chatman', being the birth name of Memphis Slim whose given name was John Len Chatman.

The song, although reworked by Memphis Slim And The House Rockers in their rendition, has roots in the original song by Pine Top titled 'Every Day I Have The Blues', recorded in 1935 and released on the RCA subsidiary, Bluebird label. Pine Top (often known also as Pinetop) was the pseudonym of Aaron Sparks. Mississippi-born Aaron and his twin brother Marion wrote the original song together. Memphis Slim built on the opening verse lyrics of the Sparks' song then crafted the remainder of his own version and named it 'Nobody Loves Me'.

Nobody Loves Me was a B-side to the Memphis Slim release titled, Angel Child. The A side did well on the charts but there was little attention afforded to 'Nobody Loves Me' until a year later when Lowell Fulson's Trio released their version of the Memphis Slim tune but leveraging the Sparks brother's original title. Fulson's release was popular enough to climb to the #3 spot on the R&B Charts in 1950.

Although the version by B.B. King is likely the most recognized artist and song pairing, King's version didn't chart as well in 1955 as Lowell's version did five years prior. King's version, however, seemed to establish the song as a blues standard, especially given his re-releasing of the song on various albums and by King's having included it as a staple of his live performance repertoire. Many wrongly believe the song to be King's own.

A few artists recorded their own versions of Everyday I Have The Blues before B.B. King's entry into the archaeologic timeline of the song but since his release, the song has flourished with literally hundreds of bands recording and performing their own renditions of the song.

Memphis slim is credited with having recorded over 500 songs in his career. The year following his death in Paris, France, at the age of 72, Memphis Slim was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1989.

I recorded this video of my original Memphis Slim release on Miracle Records 78 RPM playing on my turntable to share the experience of playing 78s with those who also enjoy the hobby and history of vinyl records, especially of early and original Blues. I do not claim or own, nor imply ownership, of the song or music recording in any way.

Lyrics

Everyday,
Everyday I have the blues.
Everyday,
Everyday I have the blues.
It ain't about the girl I've got,
Baby, it's you I hate to lose.

Nobody loves me,
Nobody seems to care.
Nobody loves me,
Nobody seems to care.
Speakin' of bad luck, people,
You know I've had my share.

Goin' to pack up my suitcase,
Movin' on down the line.
Goin' to pack up my suitcase,
Movin' on down the line.
No doubt nobody worried,
Ain't nobody crying.
