Huntsman spider making her egg sac #1

While I missed out on the very start of the process (it always seems to happen at night!) I was fortunate enough to be able to capture some nice shots of my girl about half-way through making her egg sac.

She's industriously laying down layer upon layer of silk to gradually build up its thickness, but at this stage it's still thin enough so that you can see the green eggs inside (though sadly, none of the ham...) at least in the parts where I'm not using the flash.

When finished, she'll guard the sac with her life, not moving from it or eating for 3 - 4 weeks, after which up to a couple of hundred tiny spiderlings will emerge :-)
