The high-speed rail service known as Eurostar connects the United Kingdom to France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. It is international. The Channel Tunnel, which is owned and operated separately by Getlink and connects the United Kingdom and France, is where the majority of Eurostar trains travel.
London St Pancras International is the terminal in London; Ebbsfleet International and Ashford International in Kent used to be the other British calling points, but they are now closed. The intermediate calling points in France are Lille-Europe and Calais-Fréthun. Paris-Nord is where trains arrive in Paris. Trains to Belgium and the Netherlands serve Brussels-South and Rotterdam Centraal, prior to ending at Amsterdam Centraal. In addition, direct flights from London to Marne-la-Vallée–Chessy (Disneyland Paris) are available in France until June 2023, as are seasonal flights to the French Alps during the winter.
11 Class 373/1 trainsets with 18 coaches and 17 Class 374 trainsets with 16 coaches operate the service. On high-speed lines, the trains travel at speeds of up to 320 kilometers per hour (200 mph). Before Eurostar services began in 1994, the LGV Nord high-speed line in France opened. Later, newer lines that allowed for faster travel were added: In Belgium, HSL 1, and in southeast England, High Speed 1. TGV trains and Paris–Brussels Thalys services share the French and Belgian portions of the network.
Eurostar is run by Eurostar International Limited (EIL), which is owned by Eurostar Group and is in charge of Eurostar.
As part of a merger with Thalys that was approved in March 2022, Eurostar announced in December 2021 that it would relocate its administrative operations from London to Brussels. The company cited issues with conducting business in the United Kingdom and claimed that being based in an EU country would facilitate expansion and development.
