Bath bomb ornaments are beautiful!  They make sparkling tree ornaments and make great gifts.

BATH BOMB RECIPE: 1 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup citric acid, 1/4 cup corn starch, + 10 milliliters fragrance, 2 milliliters polysorbate 80, 4 milliliters carrier oil, & 4 milliliters water OR liquid colorant.  *Make 2 batches for interior/exterior mixes.  OPTIONAL: Add 1/2 tablespoon of Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate (SLSa) [or a different powder surfactant] to exterior mix to slow down foam down.

DIRECTIONS: Sieve dry ingredients together.  Mix wet ingredients separately.  Add wet ingredients slowly while whisking.  Add (SLSa) to the exterior mix and colorant to the interior mix.   Mix & knead the batches well with your hands.  The mixture should hold together when squeezed.

MOLDING: Add exterior mix to mold and hollow it out like a shell. Then fill it with interior mix.  Pack it flat & sprinkle loose mix on top. Smoosh the 2 sides together tightly.  Do short turns to grind  molds together. Tap both sides to release the bomb. Dry bombs for 24 hours.  Twist tiny hooks in the top, then drop a bit of alcohol on top to secure.

PAINT: Mix mica and alcohol together to make bath bomb paint. **Even if you don't want color, paint the bomb with a coat of alcohol as it creates a protective layer that lessens premature reactions caused by glitter glue. Without alcohol, the bomb will foam and bubble up wherever you put glitter glue. If you are painting with different colors, I HIGHLY recommend "mop" brushes (linked below).  The brush makes a very fine point at the end and holds a LOT of liquid, giving you more control when painting and reducing the amount of times you have to dunk your brush in the cup.

GLITTER: GLUE: 5 milliliters liquid surfactant (I find ammonium lauryl sulfate works best) + 1 milliliter alcohol.  The alcohol thins the surfactant and prevents premature reactions.  The more glue you put on the bath bomb, the greater the chance of premature reactions taking place. Add mica to the glue to make it visible. Paint glue on a small area then (while glue is still wet) add glitter.  Dry 24 hours then remove excess glitter.  Last, add a ribbon to hang the ornament.
