Fine motor skill is the combination of small muscles in movements - which is usually the synchronization of the hands and the fingers - with the eyes. How could these skills be tackled when it comes to kids? Let's take you through one of the easy and practical activities to try.

Training the child's fine motor skills along with teaching them a little bit about letter formation and phonics is what we are going to share with you through this video and activity. This activity needs a pipe cleaner and some small pieces of straws which you could simply cut from the big tall ones.

The first thing you will need to ask your child to do is insert as much of those small straw pieces into the pipe cleaner as possible. Once the child creates his/her own piece, you will then ask him/her to get a little bit creative and form some letters out of this pipe cleaner which they have just decorated. When the kids form letters, you could at this point jump in and insert the element of phonetics through teaching them what is phonetics and how the letter they have created should be spelled and what the sound it produces is (What is Phonics? How Do I Teach My Ch...).

There are actually different letters that kids could form with this pipe cleaner they have just created and you should leave the space for them in order to get a little bit creative with the whole thing, such as giving them the chance to choose the letter they prefer, shape it in the way they want, and eventually come to the point where they could even form letters that could be turned upside down to form another, such as the M and the W for example.

Educating the kids should be always taken step by step, never combine the lesson of teaching them the letters with how they are supposed to be spelled correctly for example, or else don't move in the direction of teaching them the English alphabet and at the same time plan to teach them how these letters should be pronounced, because this will eventually lead to a loss in the middle of the way since their minds will not be focused on just one thing at a time.

When it comes to the fine motor skills activities that parents and teachers could depend on in order to enhance in their kids, we have to mention that this is just one of the different ideas that we have, but we could also share with you another idea that is based on using play-dough, cheerios and a straw where they could insert the straw in the play-doh and install it on the table then start placing the cheerios inside, which is usually related to some mathematical calculations played with them (Fine Motor Skills Activities - Fine M...).

If you are in need to focus on teaching your child how to write and form the letters then there are lots of lessons which we have on our channel. You could check this link for different letter formation activities (Fun Letter Formation Activities - Lea...), or else check this link for the purpose of teaching letter formation for KS1 (How to Write Letters | Letter Formati...).

Once you get done with teaching the kids the English alphabet with how to write down the letters or form them, you could then move forward to the next step which is all about phonetics and how they are supposed to spell these different letters, or in other words, how these different letters should actually sound like.

It is always important to choose the resources which the kids will feel comfortable while playing with, such as choosing the Lego blocks, play-doh, the small magnetic letters, the paint colors, and all these things which they enjoy using and playing with because that's how they are going to get creative with these resources and will love the whole lesson and eventually will learn something through the way.

If you have any ideas related to enhancing the fine motor skills for the kids then don't hesitate to share them with us.
