The camera features the Sony IMX183 CMOS sensor, a 12-bit sensor packed with just over 20 megapixels! At “unity gain” (1e-/ADU), the camera has a dynamic range of ~11 stops, and a read noise of 2.2 e-. When gain is zero, the dynamic range of the sensor is 12 stops, read noise is 3.0 e- and the full well capacity is 15,000 e-. Overall, the camera performs well when paired with low focal length telescopes, and ZWO also offers the camera with an integrated 5-position filter wheel and deeper cooling abilities (ASI183GT) for those that want a simpler imaging train. Is the camera still relevant in 2024 and beyond? I’ll leave that up to you! AFFILIATE LINKS: This description contains AgenaAstro affiliate links.
