The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) and Stanford University’s Doerr School of Sustainability have joined forces to address the increasing challenges of global #climatechange, #energy #security and #sustainability – critical issues facing the U.S. Navy and the nation. Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro presided over the signing of a historic Education Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the two institutions, Dec. 15.
“Bold climate action is a mission imperative for the Department of the Navy,” said Del Toro. “This collaboration between the Naval Postgraduate School and Stanford University will bring together two globally-recognized hubs of #research and #innovation, focused on realizing solutions that our Navy and our nation can employ now and in the future.”
The EPA provides the foundation for future education and research efforts that bring the strengths of both institutions to bear on the increasing challenges of global #climatechange, #energy #security and #sustainability. This partnership is a deliberate step towards implementation of the Navy’s Climate Action 2030 strategy.
Dr. Arun Majumdar, Dean of Stanford's Doerr School of Sustainability remarked, “We are here today to lock our arms together and make a pledge. Our pledge is to use all the powers we have – the knowledge, the education, the talent, the innovation, the resources, the solutions, the influence – to address the defining issue of the 21st century, climate change and sustainability.”
“The problems of climate change cannot be solved in isolation,” said NPS President retired Vice Adm. Ann E. Rondeau. “This agreement between NPS and Stanford takes our respective education and applied research to new levels, empowering our people to operationalize their ideas and innovations in pursuit of shared goals.”
