Winning Wednesday Cataracts NCLEX Review

A cataract is a cloudy area in the lens of your eye (the clear part of the eye that helps to focus light). Cataracts are very common as you get older. In fact, more than half of all Americans age 80 or older either have cataracts or have had surgery to get rid of cataracts.

As a nurse or someone preparing for the NCLEX exam, it is important to have a thorough understanding of cataracts, their causes, symptoms, and treatment options.

We will cover the anatomy of the eye, how cataracts develop, risk factors associated with cataracts, and the different types of cataracts that can occur. Additionally, we will discuss the signs and symptoms of cataracts, including blurry vision, sensitivity to light, and difficulty seeing at night.

Treatment options for cataracts will also be explored, including surgical interventions such as cataract extraction and lens replacement. We will also touch on the importance of educating patients about cataracts, preventive measures, and post-operative care.
