電子レンジのマイクロ波パワー/A Microwave’s Microwaves

DENJIRO: Take a look here. I’ve created a work of pressed flowers. Pretty, isn’t it? I actually made this with a microwave oven. How is that possible, you ask? First, let’s look at how a microwave oven works. The key here is a vacuum tube called a magnetron. An electromagnetic wave known as a microwave is emitted from this tip. Now, let me send electricity to the magnetron to generate microwaves. A fluorescent lamp is hanging inside a container made with wire mesh. It is not connected to a power source. By placing this container over the magnetron, the microwaves do not leak out. Let me turn the magnetron on.
GIRL: It’s not connected to a power source, but it turned on!
DENJIRO: The fluorescent lamp absorbed the microwaves and turned on. This magnetron can be found inside a microwave oven. Inside the microwave oven that’s encased in metal, microwaves reflect and fly around evenly. Let me compare it to waves of water. As you can see, the waves bounce off the wall and spread out across the surface.
A microwave oven uses microwaves that have a wavelength of 12 cm, which are well absorbed by the moisture in food. When absorbed by water, the microwaves’ energy generates heat. By using this mechanism, I was able to make pressed flowers with a microwave oven. Let me show you how. First, I line up flowers on some paper. I then place a board on top. Now I clamp it shut with pieces of wood. Heat for one minute in the microwave oven. Let me take it out.
GIRL: The pressed flowers are done!
DENJIRO: The moisture in the flower petals evaporated but retained their colors. By using a microwave oven, you can make pretty pressed flowers in a short amount of time.
I hope energy will bring you all happiness. Our magic word is "Happy Energy!"
