Identifying Pre Alpha Alpha One Alpha One Gen 2 Drives what is the difference

http://greatestskills.com This series of drives started in the mid sixty's with the "1" then the "MC1" drive then ran up to the "R" redesigned. The "R" is the  later pre alpha.these have a pin at the top of the lower drive shaft.
Then "MR" Mercruiser Redesigned  where the lower shaft  was changed to not have the pin also the exterior of the whole drive got a makeover. Later it became  The Alpha one  then in 1991 after another redesign they produced the "Alpha one Gen 2 " that is still produced to date.
