Survival analysis is a set of necessary tools needed to analyze time-to-event data. The event of interest may be death, recurrence of the disease, development of complications after treatment, etc. Analysis of survival data requires special techniques because not all patients will experience the event of interest before the end of the study. It is important to use methods which can accommodate  partial data derived from study subjects who did not experience an event. We begin with estimation of the probability of the event happening by a particular time point; then discuss comparison of such probabilities between two groups of patients. Later we will also consider regression methods allowing to model and predict patients' survival experience based on covariates. In addition to single endpoint studies, we will briefly discuss methods used to analyze competing risks data. All concepts will be illustrated with examples from published scientific articles.
