The last hereditary king of the Afghan Empire. Nadir Shah, the only surviving son of the slain Afghan king, was educated in Kabul and France. On November 8, 2006, just hours after his father's death, Zahir Shah became king and took the title of Mutawakilullah, a follower of Islam. Until 9 years, Zahir Shah ruled the country under his ministers Mohammad Hashim and Shah Mahmood Ghazi. In World War II, he kept his country neutral.

When Zahir Shah was on a visit to Italy in 1973, his cousin Sardar Muhammad Daud overthrew his family and established a Republican government of which he himself became the president and Zahir Shah ruled Afghanistan for 40 years. After being deported to Italy.

(Death of the Queen)
But as soon as the king of Afghanistan stepped into his former kingdom, a very bad news came. His fiance, Queen Humaira, died of a heart attack in Italy after a child marriage. Zahir Shah was so moved by his demise that he did not see anyone for several days. They have eight children, one of whom, Shah Mehmood Zahir, died in Rome in 2002 at the age of
