Random Thought:
Short story. So anytime I do a warm or berry eyeshadow look, I will end up getting comments telling me I ALWAYS use those shadows and to do something else. Without any sort of public declaration, I set out to do a wider variety of looks this past month. And then on Saturday... a big ol warm palette came out to play. I was once again told that I ALWAYS use those tones and need to switch it up. I don't know where these folks are when I'm using other colors... but whatever the case, this got under my skin. To be truly honest, commenters haven't gotten under my skin for a long while.
What did I do? Snatched up screenshots/pics of my various "different" recent looks and put it on my instagram story. It gave my ego some momentary satisfaction. Then as I went and did some other things (organized a mountain of kids clothes).... I just felt like that post wasn't me. Maybe it was early YouTube me who got fairly easily offended? But the (slightly) more evolved me (usually) gives grace and doesn't get worked up. I took my snappy, self-serving post down.
My lesson to myself (and maybe others who create)... there are people who- no matter what- won't be willing to acknowledge the cool things you've done. If it doesn't fit their "story" about you, they won't see it. LET THEM BE. ENJOY being yourself. You know your value. Check yourself when you need to, give grace to others and move on.
