Catalytic oxidizers (or catalytic incinerator) are used across a broad range of industrial processes to efficiently destroy volatile organic compounds (VOCs), Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) and other odorous emissions while enabling manufacturers to maintain EPA compliance.
This proven technology combines a low-temperature oxidization catalyst, primary heat exchanger, and an efficient combustion system into an integrated package to deliver cost effective destruction of VOCs.  

Upon start up, the line burner is ignited raising the temperature of the burner chamber to the set point required for catalyst activation.  The system booster fan draws in the process emissions and forces these gases into the inlet of the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger pre-heats the incoming emissions by transferring energy from the hot, clean exhaust stream exiting the oxidizer.  These gases pass through a high efficiency line burner where the temperature is raised to the required set-point temperature, ranging from 500 to 650 degrees Fahrenheit.

Depending on the process emissions, a guard bed may be added to the radiant zone in the burner chamber where contaminants can be trapped, protecting the catalyst bed.  The heated, process emissions then enter the catalyst chamber and pass through the catalyst bed where the VOC destruction efficiency is in excess of 99%.  The catalytic oxidation reaction converts the VOCs into C02, water vapor and energy, causing the temperature to rise across the catalyst bed.

The hot, clean exhaust stream passes through the counterflow heat exchanger where BTUs are transferred to the incoming process emission stream.   In most situations the thermal efficiency of the primary heat exchanger can range from 60-75%.  This level of thermal efficiency provides energy to preheat the incoming process emissions, minimizing fuel consumption from the burner system.
