Catalytic Oxidation of Ammonia
If it undergoes catalytic oxidation Pt heated to 800 degree Celsius
4 NH3 + 5O2 ----------- 4 NO +6H2O
Reddish brown vapours of nitrogendioxide will form because the nitric oxide undergoes further oxidation
The platinum glows when when the heating is stopped . it is due to the exothermic reaction.
