Paolo Sorrentino’s work ignites a firework of aesthetic imagery that captures the spirit of Italy with an anthropological eye. Over the approximately 20 years of his career, the Naples-born director has created movies that delight both audiences and critics alike, and give testimony to his great artistic range. The critically acclaimed LA GRANDE BELLEZZA won him an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Sorrentino offers an insight into his cinematic work and discusses his new, autobiographic film È STATA LA MANO DI DIO during his ZFF Masters session.
The Italian Oscar-winning director and screenwriter received the «A Tribute To... Award 2021», ZFF’s highest accolade for an auteur filmmaker. He also held a ZFF Masters and presented his most recent work È STATA LA MANO DI DIO. Furthermore, the ZFF showed a retrospective of his work.

The «Zurich Film Festival» brings together filmmakers, directors, the film industry and the audience in Zurich. In addition to national and international films, a variety of movies from this year’s guest country Italy are shown in the section «New World View». Film screenings in the presence of filmmakers or the public «ZFF Masters» let the audience be closer to the stars as well as young filmmakers.
