Tips for Chronic Jaw Pain & Stress - How to FINALLY Get Relief!

Stress and jaw pain go hand in hand! It’s not normal for your jaw to pop or click. And if you don’t have this already, that popping or clicking is usually joined by inner ear pain, or aches starting in your jaw and travelling up into your head. (Hello, headaches!)

If any of that sounds familiar… you probably don’t need us to tell you that you have chronic jaw pain!

What likely started the issue was STRESS. Seriously!

When we’re stressed and DON’T express it (and leave it unresolved) we end up “biting our tongue” - or literally CLENCHING our jaws!

And by clenching your jaw day in and day out, you exhaust those muscles and set them up to be in chronic pain.

STRESS’ effects on your body can be worsened by:

1. Lack of sleep

You’ve probably heard this before - getting less than 8 hours of sleep isn’t doing you any favors.

Specifically, sleep deprivation makes your body more vulnerable to stress… and sleeping with unresolved stress can make you clench your teeth in your sleep, which means if you wake up stressed you’ll continue to clench your jaw.

My favorite tip about getting better sleep from the video up above is as simple as changing into your pajamas before bed. Our brains speak in habits, and pajamas are correlated with sleep!

2. Slouching while you work

We’ll link a how-to down below, but the cliff notes of the “Sit-Slide-Lean” rule are to sit in your chair, slide your butt back, and lean back into your chair.

This posture will support your lower back while also putting less pressure on your upper back -- and less pressure means less clenching that jaw to cope!

The tips above will help prevent further jaw pain, but it won’t help the jaw pains or headaches you have right NOW.
