Skopje Fortress is a historic fortress located in the old town of Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia. The fortress is thought to have been built during the rule of emperor Justinian I and constructed further during the 10th and 11th centuries over the remains of emperor Justinian's Byzantine fortress which may have been destroyed due to a number of wars and battles in the region. The fortress is located on a hilltop overlooking the Vardar River and the city of Skopje. It has been a strategic military position for centuries and has been controlled by a number of different empires, including the Byzantine, Ottoman, and Austro-Hungarian empires. The fortress is now a popular tourist destination and offers stunning views of the city. Visitors can explore the ramparts, towers, and courtyards of the fortress, and there is also a museum on site that tells the history of the fortress.

Walking down the hill you arrive at Macedonia Square. It is named after the ancient kingdom of Macedonia, which once covered much of the territory of modern-day North Macedonia. The square is located in the heart of the city, on the east bank of the Vardar River. Macedonia Square was originally built in the 19th century during the Ottoman Empire era. However, it was largely destroyed in the 1963 Skopje earthquake. The square was then rebuilt in the 1970s and 1980s in a socialist style. However, after the Republic of Macedonia gained independence in 1991, the square was again remodeled in a more neoclassical style. Today, Macedonia Square is a popular tourist destination. It is home to a number of important landmarks, including the Stone Bridge, the Porta Macedonia, and the Mother Teresa Memorial House. The square is also a popular spot for events and festivals.

The Mother Teresa Memorial House is a museum dedicated to the life and work of Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, known to the world as Mother Teresa. She was born in Skopje, then part of the Ottoman Empire, in 1910. After spending 20 years as a teacher in India, she founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1950 to help the poorest of the poor in Kolkata. For her work, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. She died in Kolkata in 1997 and was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 2016. The memorial house is located on the site of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, where Mother Teresa was baptized. The church was destroyed in the 1963 Skopje earthquake, but the house where she was born was spared. The memorial house was opened in 2009, and it contains a collection of artifacts related to Mother Teresa's life, including her Nobel Prize medal, her sari, and her crucifix. The memorial house is a popular tourist destination, and it is a place of pilgrimage for many Catholics. It is a reminder of Mother Teresa's compassion and her dedication to helping others.
