Aromaticity is not limited to neutral molecules. Ions can also be aromatic and dramatically stabilized as a result. One of the most common aromatic anions is the conjugate base of cyclopentadiene. Cyclopentadiene has a low pKa of 18 because the conjugate base is stabilized through aromaticity. The tropylium cation is also stabilized by aromaticity.
