http://Leah4sci.com/aromaticity presents: Huckel’s Rule for Aromaticity + Time-saving shortcut
Need help with Orgo? Download my free guide ’10 Secrets to Acing Organic Chemistry’ HERE: http://leah4sci.com/orgo-ebook/
Huckel’s rule is the most confusing and most tedious step in figuring out if a molecule is aromatic or antiaromatic. This video shows you how to calculate Huckel’s rule to ensure you ‘get’ the math, followed by a time-saving shortcut so that you DON’T actually have to DO the math every time.
Catch the entire Aromaticity Video Series Along with the Aromaticity Practice Quiz and Cheat Sheet on my website at http://leah4sci.com/aromaticity
In this video:
[0:15]Aromaticity review
[1:39] Using Huckel’s formula
[6:19] Determine antiaromatic/aromatic molecules
[7:36] Finding the pattern using electron pairs
Note: At 4:08, I state that cyclooctatetraene appears to be planar. Even though it might appear that way, the molecule actually takes a non-planar tub shape. This fact disqualifies it from following the conditions for aromaticity. Cyclooctatetraene is a non-aromatic compound.
