FANUC America Authorized System Integrator Wauseon Machine and Manufacturing developed this versatile robotic system for the manufacture of cross-member frame components for a major automotive manufacturer. It utilizes three FANUC robots to finish one part every six to seven seconds.

The system starts as a FANUC M-20iA robot reaches into a parts bin to remove a bulk group of parts with a magnetic end of arm tooling. The robot moves the parts to a part locating station to drop them off, where two FANUC M-10iA/12S robots await to pick and feed the parts to a spot welder. To locate the parts on the tray, these two robots utilize FANUC’s 3DA/1300 Area Sensor, which takes an image of the parts and sends part position data to the robots.

The first of the two FANUC M-10iA/12S robots picks a part from the vision station and presents it to a FANUC iRVision 2D camera to capture the part position in the robot’s vacuum gripper. Once the robot knows the part’s orientation, it places it into a re-grip station. The robot picks the re-gripped part and places it onto the receiver tooling at the welder, then signals the welder to feed and weld a nut onto the bracket. While the first robot waits for the weld process to complete, the second FANUC robot gets to work, replicating this process. The robot waits for a "process complete" signal, removes the part, and places it into the outfeed bin of welded parts. This process repeats for continuous processing of the parts.

This system from Wauseon is not only extremely efficient and ergonomic, it is also a flexible solution, able to handle multiple part types. To learn more about FANUC America Authorized System Integrator Wauseon, please visit http://www.wauseonmachine.com.
