Have you ever wondered who are the leaders in Wins Above Replacement or WAR in baseball? In this video, we'll explore how the legends and stars of the game stack up against each other.
Some facts in this video: Barry Bonds and Babe Ruth are tied with the highest WAR among positional players, but Ruth's WAR as a pitcher give him the highest total ever. Walter Johnson set the highest WAR in a season in 1913.
Comparing players across baseball eras has always been a challenge. Wins Above Replacement or WAR offers a valuable tool for fans, despite its limitations. While some view WAR as a godsend, others see it as a confusing statistic due to slight variations in its calculation depending on the source. It also favors players with longer careers.
But unless someone comes up with another metric, we’ll be using WAR. While not perfect, WAR remains the best way to compare today's stars with legends of the past.
