Emotional intelligence is a cornerstone to raising a child.  We want our children to have the ability to have self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and good social skills.  As an educator, I know the importance of academics, but they mean nothing if a child doesn't have strong emotional intelligence.  One day our kids will be out of our homes, and we want them to be able to interact with others in a healthy and effective manner. This, of course, takes time and practice.
