While difficult to confirm, USS Maury is commonly stated to be the fastest American destroyer. With a speed of just under 43 knots, on her speed trials.
Even if this isn't actually the case, this is still a ship worth remembering. Her service doesn't really have the big name incidents you expect. She didn't get into many big brawls, nor was she at Samar. But what Maury did have was quiet, reliable escort work.
To the point of earning 16 battle stars and a *Presidential Unit Citation*. This makes her one of the most decorated of all American ships, in spite of her relatively quiet service.
That's something worth remembering, I think.
