Omega Juicers - Adjustable End Cap Settings

I just got the Omega J8008C Ultimate Juicer & Nutrition System and I love it!

Since they include the adjustable end cap, I believe it is everything the MM900HDS is, but with a shiny chrome finish, PLUS adds parts to make all-natural nut milks, nut butters, frozen fruit sorbets, pasta, baby food, minced herb, ground beans, and more.

When learning how to use it, though, there was one thing that threw me for a loop. I read through the manual, but nowhere (not even online) could I find details on the adjustable end cap settings. It just says tighter for citrus fruits and loosest for wheatgrass. This video and information should apply to any model that has the adjustable end cap, including the J8006HDS, MM900HDS, and CNC80S.

I wanted to know, specifically, what is the best setting for making celery juice?

I was able to reach Omega through Facebook, and they sent this reply:

“Hi Rob. The correct setting can vary by the freshness of your produce. We recommend that you always start your juicing session by setting the adjuster on the end cap at the tightest setting and dial it down as needed. The more you dial the adjuster down, the more pulp you will receive in your juice. Typically, we have found the tighter settings (4,5) should be used for firmer produce like celery, leafy greens, and wheatgrass. The looser settings (1,2) should be used for softer produce such as citrus, berries, pineapple, etc. If you are juicing a combination of soft and firm produce, we recommend that you keep the adjustable dial around 3.”

This was helpful, but some questions still remained.

From looking at the adjustable end cap, it appeared that "Looser" is clockwise, and "Tighter" is counterclockwise (which is opposite the well-known “Lefty Loosey, Righty Tighty” mnemonic device). The dial has no numbers, just segments that go from small to large. Yet Omega used numbers to refer to the settings. All the way counterclockwise aligns the arrow with the largest segment, and is the tightest setting, which would be 5. All the way clockwise aligns the arrow with the smallest segment, and is the loosest setting, which would be 1.

In this video, as an experiment, I juiced some celery at each extreme setting and then compared the juice and pulp that was produced.

The result I found is that the tightest setting, all the way counterclockwise, the "number 5" setting, where the arrow points to the largest segment on the dial, is the best for getting the highest yield when juicing celery.

I hope this information helps anyone out there who might be looking for answers to the same questions I had.

Happy juicing!
