The Orlando Innovation Center designs, builds, and commissions fully automated machining solutions for manufacturing facilities. The system shown was designed and built to remove burrs on parts that range from simple prismatic to complex multi-axis geometry edges. Toolpaths were developed offline in a CAM software and sent to a post processor for control of the FANUC M-710iC robot arm. A radially force compliant spindle is utilized to provide the end user control of the process and enables the system to accept slight deviations of the part from nominal CAD geometry.

When combined with FANUC’s Dual Check Safety (DCS) and FANUC’s collision guard, this turnkey system was able to be developed with safety in mind without compromising on operator ease-of-use. The FANUC PC Developer's Toolkit (PCDK) and Single-Axis Servo Positioner allowed for ease of integration and successful deburring of these parts. This system can be adapted for different parts and applications with a change in software and configuration. This project was led by the OIC with the support of FANUC Southeast through a collaborative effort.
