How do they wash a
How do they wash a Eurofighter Typhoon? With all that tech and a price tag of around £100million, surely it is high tech cleaning? Nope, you'll be surprised that it is good old buckets of soapy water, hose pipes, brushes, extended cleaning mops, some office chairs, it is simply down to elbow grease and scrubbing. You will notice some good old tape and the red covers to protect certain parts of the aircraft.
It is bad enough trying to wash your car or even taking it to the guys at the car wash, with all those insects splattered on your windscreen, exhaust soot and dirt, how do you get to wash a fighter jet? Good thing about a fighter jet is that you can get underneath it!
So how long does it take to clean ONE Typhoon? We actually don't know! But it seems to take a few hours from what we have seen. Of course, some of the fluids used have anti-corrosion chemicals in them.
But it is not only about keeping the aircraft spick and span. Any build up of debris, soot and dirt can affect the aircraft's aerodynamics and therefore compromise the safety of the pilot. It really is about safety and keeping an aircraft clean and free from dirt will add to the lifespan of the aircraft.
