Replace Rear Shocks on Toyota Sienna

Remove the old shocks/struts from the rear of a Toyota Sienna 2000 and replace them with new ones. It is important for the stability and handling of your vehicle to have good shocks/struts. This increases the smoothness of the ride and safety of the passengers. Worn out shocks/struts are dangerous.

Step by step:
1)  Remove the plastic trim cover behind the rear seats
2)  Remove lock nut from top of the shock
3)  Remove retaining nut that secures shock on top
(Note that it will “explode” as the pressure on the rubber spacer is released – protect yourself)
4)  Now that everything on top is removed, move down under the vehicle
5)  Remove the 14 mm bolt that secures the bottom of the shock, underneath the vehicle
6)  Remove shock from bottom spindle
7)  Remove rust from wheel mount/bottom spindle
8)  Put washer and rubber spacer on top of new shock
9)  Slide new shock in from bottom and onto wheel mount
10)  Fasten bolt, but don’t tighten all the way
11)  Jack up coil spring & wheel so shock protrudes through top
12)  Install mounting hardware on top
13)  Fasten retainer nut while stopping shock from rotating
14)  Rubber spacer should flatten somewhat, but not protrude
15)  Fasten lock nut and replace plastic trim cover
16)  Tighten bottom bolt all the way (14 mm)
17)  Lower vehicle and go for a test drive.
