Great-Grandma's Skillet Cornbread Recipe

Learn how to make skillet cornbread.  This is a cornbread recipe similar to one of the many my great grandma used to make.  It is a northern style that is sweetened, but you can leave out the sugar for a more savory side dish.  Great with beans, soups or breakfast.  This is an easy, quick cornbread recipe to make!

Recipe Tips:

Buttermilk substitute:  Add 1 tbs of vinegar or lemon juice into to a measuring cup.  Pour milk in up to the one cup mark.  Let sit 5 -10 minutes.  Video Buttermilk Substitute Recipe

* Sugar is optional and aids in browning, texture and flavor.  It can be omitted, but you may need to increase baking time by 5 minutes.
* Do not over mix the batter.  Let batter sit in skillet 5 - 10 minutes before baking.  Some lumps are normal.  Over mixing will lead to a cake like texture.
