Mughal Emerald Cup (1620 AD):

A magnificent emerald, gold and enamel wine goblet;  belonged to the Mughal Emperor Jahangir (r. 1605-1627 AD) of Northern (Mughal) India.  This emerald was originally mined in Colombia and traded in India, where emeralds were highly coveted by the emperors of the Mughal Empire (1526-1857 AD).

Weighing 408.5 carats (weighing 411 g), this remarkable Emerald Cup is one of the largest and most magnificent Mughal Emerald Cups ever produced.  The size, color and clarity of the stone from which it is carved are exceptional;  it was then carved with a delicacy remarkable for so fragile a stone.

Thus, the Mughal craftsmen who made this bowl followed the prismatic quality of an exceptionally large emerald crystal.  It is also interesting to note that although the top of the bowl was crafted to perfect shape and size by a craftsman, the underside of the bowl is slightly uneven, likely reflecting the original crystal.
